Winter project updates
Jan. 17th, 2011 12:50 pmIt is shaping up to be a busy week. I have a newsletter to get out and K&Q rapier to pack. For the most part, I am taking a break from working on A & S stuff this week until I get the few things I need done for Saturday completed (a couple of doublets and a shirt). That and I am waiting for supplies.
I am waiting for my base board to arrive so I can start Sparky. I went to the craft store to look at wire meshing, which is what I was planning on wrapping the krispy treats base. I ended up getting plaster of paris cast rolls (plaster on fabric). Plaster is actually more period, though they did use wire too. The goal is to make the tyger without the need for emergency duct tape. The plaster will harden in about 15 minutes, which should be enough to not have to worry about the sugar in krispy base dissolving. The sugar will have something concrete (no pun intended) to bind to. I still have to figure out logistics of transporting the sculpture to the event. I am on the quest to find edible gold leaf at reasonable prices.
I have been working on Mamluk Fire Coat v2. The padding of the wool is progressing along. Not as quickly as I'd like, but we have progress moving forward. The new wool is lovely to work with. It has a nice textural bite that makes sewing a dream. We will see how the rest of the project moves along after the channeling/padding is done. Channels may not be exciting to you. I think they look pretty, all lined up in a row and they have a really great texture.
This is the front center panel of the coat. 42" of padded goodness.
