Liberty Bell
Originally uploaded by alysten
Weekend was awesome. Went to see the liberty bell. Saw the sunshine. BBQ'd meat products.

Talked about getting a rotisserie. Something battery powered and hand cranked so that people can 'try it', and big enough to roast lamb or pig. Thinking about getting this for Pennsic.

Decided on a great combination of stuff for the boy. Need to pick out fabrics for the new spiffy armor. I have narrowed it down to wavy lines/denticulata doublet and flame/diamond pants.

Here is what I am thinking of teaching at Pennsic:
  • Webminstering 101- ADA 508 compliancy, simple coding/web development, technology usage, effective design.
  • Sugar subelties- modern sugar, period techniques.
  • Knife skills- knife identification, proper knife care, knife handling and cutting techniques
Project updates:
  • Embroidery on Project #1 completed.
  • Embroidery on argent_tyger's cuff partially ripped out and begun again in the correct color.
  • Embroidery on Royal Fencing baldric(princess) 1/2 completed.
  • Embroidery on Bhakail A & S baldric nearly completed.
  • Parts for 4 projects cut out and ready for the machine.
  • Flat trim ironed for argent_tyger.
  • Ermine dots painted on fabric.
Many more thingys to do this week before coronation, including baking some cookies and such.

I wanna come eat too!

I just got in a book on German lebkuchen forms, some used for marzipan and I imagine sugar work as well - some are in period and there is a history of the mold usage. Interested in images? Also, would you like that I pull out period sugarwork thingies from the reading I am doing?

If you are at Pennsic this year, you are welcome to stop by.

Absolutely! I would love to see those. It was not uncommon to use lebkuchen forms for sugar pieces.

Also I found a "white gingerbread" recipe, that is neither bread nor baked. Though it is white and does have ginger. I am thinking I might commission some sugar/cookie molds.

"Take Gumma Dragantis* half an once, and steep it in rosewater two daies, then put thereto a pound of sugar beaten and finely serced, and beat them well together, so that it may be wrought like paste, then role it thin into two Cakes, then take a fewe Jordain almonds and blaunch them in colde water, then dry them with a faire Cloth, and stampe them in a mortar very finelye, adding thereto a little rosewater, beat finely also the whitest Sugar you can get and searce it. Then take Ginger, pare it and beat it very small and serce it, them put in sugar to the almonds and beat them together very well, then take it out and work it at your pleasure, then lay it even upon one of your cakes, and cover it with an other and when you put it in the molde, strewe fine ginger both above and beneathe, if you have not great store of Sugar, then take Rice and beat it small and serce it, and put it into the Morter and beat them altogether."
