Spring and thoughts of mudthaw

alystenThis started as one post, migrated into another, so 2 postys today. I am having a good week. The boy likes his new toy weapon, I have goals and direction, the sun is shining, and we may break into the 60s today.
5 people have sent me the A & S reminder for Mudthaw. I guess that is a clue that maybe I should get something together. I will definitely do the Strauben von Mandeln (AKA the crack balls) again. I might even pipe them. I need to find a smaller tip than what I was using. Good news is 1/2 the recipe makes about 100 balls. I want to do the bread and spread again. I love working with goat cheese, and it was a really big hit last year. It is amazing how many people are allergic to cow dairy. I may even try to make a GF bread.
My sugar arrived this week and I have started constructing Wesley's sword and auxiliary parts of the R.O.U.S. They need a week to dry so I can sand and paint them. Keeping in mind that 'yes our king will eat this', I need to be extra careful with how it is prepared. I checked with the powers that be for allergy restrictions and the chocolate raspberry port cake appears to be ok, and wont kill anyone. The Baroness sent back the following: "FYI - My criteria for judging includes: Creativity; Theme related (in this case Mudthaw XXX or "The Princess Bride"); Edibility and tastiness; Period methods and ingredients; and last but by no means least - My whims!" Well I will have most of those in the display. And in 'theory' TRM have declared chocolate to be period...
Ah who am I kidding. I am making a conscious decision to not go with a period base. This is going to be a largish structure, probably at least 5-6 inches in height, roughly 2x as long. So a stronger base is going to be needed to support the surrounding sugar. It is going to be eaten, it needs to hold up all day without refridgeration (and as to not make people sick), alcohol is a preservative and people will enjoy it. It also has to survive being set on fire. :D Presentation, sugar sculpting methods and whimsical adherence to the theme all within the 'rules' for period sugar art displays.
Progress had been made on argent_tyger's cuffs. If I get one completed, I may enter that as just a normal entry. Pictures coming soon.
And other randomness... The IT guys pasted a sticker on my scooter yesterday to remind me of the perils of texting and driving.
