KQRC- wrap up.
Feb. 28th, 2010 04:05 pmYesterday was rapier champs, and it was the first real day out of the house in 2 weeks (yay!). I have been looking forward to this for several days. I had the same kind of excitement that small child gets when they get to have a play date, and play with all their friends. And the fact that I am mostly mobile was all sorts of awesome.
Telescope_merc packed up all the stuff and my scooter and we were off to the wilds of New Jersey. Aside from a few little kerfuffles of missing an offramp, a snow shower, totally missing the turn and touring down town Denville, we arrived little worse for wear. Tournament was gearing up just as we got there. Took me a while to get dressed and put together for the event. Thank goodness for Lissa510 and spinpsycology to help me out. I would have had a heck of a time navigating the dress without some help.
I am glad I brought the crutches with me as the dining area and merchants area were on a lower level and there was no way to get down to it otherwise.I bought some lovely beads that match the new silk and taffeta that I bought the other day. I also picked some longer pin cases and more silk socks. Also some veil pins for Lissa510 as a thank you present for being my fetch monkey all day. I was a good kid and resisted the urge to buy some teal wool (I have to use the 60 yards that just came last week first).
I only had one 'almost' mishap. I 'might' have been going a little too fast and didn't see one of the list rope. Again, hurray for the scooter. It allowed me to handle the little blip and regain stability really quickly. Crisis averted. Bacon cookies and cupcakes were consumed. Greenness and I were comparing tweaks to the recipes. I will definitely need to try the recipe again.
I wish I could have enjoyed the fighting more. Narcotic induced haze was entertaining to say the least. I did get to see some nice fights. Though my camera showed me how shaky I was trying to take pictures (even from sitting position). But I was able to get some good ones. I probably should have stayed stationary more through out the day, but I was just too excited to be out and about. By 6 I was ready to melt down. Technology, pain, dehydration, protein lows almost got the better of me. Once we got to the restaurant, I was at toddler level of not being able to communicate. I am glad that I have people who were looking out for me the whole day. It was the right amount of independence with gentle helping when I needed it. Telescope_merc was awesome throughout the whole of it all.
JP and nomadmwe won King's and Queen's champion respectively. Owynn and fencerm2 received naked grants. Argent_tyger and collin_m received burdened tygers.
All in all a great day.
Quote from the day:
Hand me my bag and I will fix your cock otter.
Lessons learned:
1. Doors are heavy. I have not yet learned the art of opening doors without falling over yet.
2. Gym floors are great for zooming around on.
3. Drugs and scooters, can be an interesting combination
4. My scooter makes a great seat.
5. If I charged everyone who asked for a ride on the scooter $1 per trip around the gym, I could have easily made $100.
6. Reservations for dinner, best idea ever.
7. 2 hour car rides almost a bad idea.
8. A full day for recovery after the event, priceless.

Date: 2010-03-01 01:27 pm (UTC)And I think we took the same tour of Denville that you did... missed the turn a few times (even tho I said, hey guys, I *really* think it's *that way*, but noooooo...). Helpful gas station attendant was helpful (and I was right. ;) ).
