[project update] Random

It is time once again for project updates.

Now that Pennsic is over, I can look at my project stack and get more things cleared off. Once I clear the stack, I can work on stuff for me and repairs for The Boy(tm). If you are not on this list and should be, let me know. If you are on the list and you do not have a date, lets decide on one.

Coronation-
katyaehal: cloak

Yule-
kiena_s: Swabian dress- group project, Bhakail. I'm doing the undergarments, socks and head wear (yay silk).
caitlindancer: cloak

Undetermined-
math5: rapier armor
HRH gregor: armor
thomas_delbroc: middle class english 15-16th century, rapier armor
ianraven: hood
nomadmwe:magic doublet (I found awesome fabric in my stash... will be spiffy)
collin_m: cassock
katnboots: alterations
telescope_merc: court wear... eventually

Garb for me:
I realized that for Pennsic, I like short sleeves. Which means I am going to do a couple more viking gowns and possibly look for other gown styles that will let me do short sleeves. I want to do more German gowns. I like that I am doing a tour of the Holy Roman Empire. Specifically, I want to do more lower class German gowns.

It is time to clear out my SCA closet and make some donations to gold key. It is amazing how you can start out firmly planted in one culture and one time frame, only to shift directions. Most of my early stuff is late,Late Period, English. Along came the german nuts with their promise of stripes and fried pastries and Wham! There I am. Playing in the late 1400's, early 1500's with all the other cool kids.  I may even have to do an actual slashed gown, the kind out of wool (but first I have to kill all the moths, go moth eating cat, go).

I am really inspired to do new underwear and socks. Stripy socks out of linen. Once my feet heal, I can think of getting period shoes to go with my period socks and garters.  The thought of doing linen striped socks, fills me with much glee.  The seam lines of the linen go around the outside of the feet and not across the tops of the toes (where all the scars are).

Sugar:
I have the artwork and game plan completed.  The research is done.  Now all I have to do is go shopping at home depot.  There is so much neat stuff that I will get to try out with this project.  It will be the first time I can put it all together. I have 2lbs of nice fresh beeswax to play with too.  I am thinking that I will be doing a wood and wire armature, with either plaster or papermache undercoat. All to be covered with thin layers of sugar paste.  I will also be employing poured sugar and royal icing type sugar work.  I have a sugar extruder and will be using that to make grass, reeds and  river weeds.  The over all theme is a water horse mid transformation, part horse, part river/fish.  I cannot wait to start this project.  But I do not dare even begin thinking of doing any sugar work until September.

And that is that... for the moment.

Erm...just curious; since you are thinking of contributing these items to Gold Key anyway, is there any chance you might be willing to donate them to this event?: http://muchado.sebastopolschools.org/

The art/costume department of the event (that would be claughter713) is doing a great job of taking 'Ren Faire' folks and getting them to be more historically accurate for the 1570-1580 era. She has no budget and no 'wardrobe' department, although she is slowly gathering an amazing set of loner ruffs and partlets from a handful of folks who are dedicated to the idea of putting History back into Historical Reenactment.

The overall event is a fundraiser for students in the Sebastopol Union School District. Funds are used by classroom teachers for supplies and field trips, as well as by enrichment programs including music, art, library, science & technology, sports and counseling.

Just a thought... ;)

I could do that. Most of my English stuff is lower/middle class. But if she wants some historically correct kirtles that can go over a hoop, I might be able to hook her up.

That sounds great; I will flag her into this conversation and get you two in contact.

*huggies*

Hmmm. Overdo that and you will Dead to me. :-D

I'll see what I can dig up in the Dutch lower classes that is sleeveless without being TOO Flemish Kirtle.

"I'll see what I can dig up in the Dutch lower classes that is sleeveless without being TOO Flemish Kirtle."

If you can do that, I will be a happy kid. And by a couple, I mean maybe 1, 2 tops. I am not a viking, the culture excites me as much as the Flemish. But... if you can get me short sleeves, I would be tempted by that.

Of course I suppose I could run around pennsic in Bohemian bath garb.

We should start looking into the armor thing for January, since the pottery class ends in December.

That would be good.
