Now I remember...

Why I hate sewing corsets.  Its all the channels you have to sew.  I'm not working on a corset, but the technique is the same. I am working on the padded front of the Mamluk fire coat. Since I am allergic to horse hair and hemp, I am using cotton as the padded layer, sandwiched between 2 layers of wool.  And then as a final touch I will be lining the coat in wool.

 I destroyed 5 yards of wool to make pattern modification #1 (good thing it was on sale for $3).  So back to the fabric store for more black wool (and woo hoo still on sale for $3).  I found a coarser weaved wool, but I think in the long run it is better.  I have been modifying this pattern.  It is way too long, the sleeves are way to long and it doesn't split in the front.  The fire coats kinda wrap around and are tied with a belt, like a gi.  So I've cut the length, dramatically shortened the sleeves, narrowed the gusset and top of the side panels.  And now I have the correct coat shape and pattern drape. K & Q A & S project # 2 is well under way.

So far I have gone through 2 bobbins of thread, and I am 1/3 of the way done with making channels.  And Pixi has decided that she needs to nap on me... like a kitty stole, snoring in my ear.  Cats like children do in fact gain weight as they nap.  Tomorrow is 12th night. I am going to look like a pretty, pretty princess in my new garb and sit and work on powder charges*.

*Powder charges == coffee charges.  Coffee doesn't have the potential to explode. Though we may have to make v3 where we attach real charges to see what happens. ;)
