Hat for a fencing helm

I want to make one of these to go with my fencing kit.  Now I know that the hat is usually very much lower/questionable German class of folks.  My kit is allegorical lower class as is.  All of the painting that show this style of dress have this style of hat.

Anyone out there know what kind of hat this actually is?  What type of feathers were used? This will be an AFTER coronation project.  As Im not fencing yet (heck I am just starting to think about footwork again), I am in no hurry to get started.

Thanks!

Tempus, easily, the other lady, yes as long as she is at war.

Also talk to Mylisant Grey and her sweetie, Aldrich.

Happy to. Not sure they'll be at Pennsic, but I'm sure we can find a chance.

The next event I'll be at is Coronation. And I will be in the kitchen most of the day and easy to fine (in theory)

The gentle in the hat was really fun to talk to. He was giving a impromptu lecture on the hat when that pic was taken. I got his card if you want to ask him about the hat. He's from the Mid and will not be at War.

Ian gave me his info. I am hoping he tells me about the hazards he has with the feathers. It is truly an awesome hat.

I heard him saying that sometimes the feathers slip around to the front and impair his vision. I did not hear why he does not secure them better to stop that. He also talked about the difficulties with blow call it creates.

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I am hoping to learn. I can sew things down to within an inch of its life, but only if I know what the issues are.

They are Ostrich feathers (http://www.sdflowers.com/images/white_ostrich_feathers.jpg) and what little can be seen of the hat makes me believe it is wool tellerbarret.
