Post-op update

I had my second foot surgery Friday.  Everything went really well. Old screw is out, new bigger, longer screw is in. 4 weeks (min) of no weight bearing.  Apparently the old screw had worked its way completely out of position and was at the toe tip.  It explains why there was so much pain in that digit.  New new screw is doing exactly what the other screw was suppose to do.

The difference between my normal foot and the reconstructed foot is pretty dramatic.  The nurses and assisting resident  commented on how good the new foot looked. The deformity is more noticeable when I'm asleep, as my brain is not actively holding my foot into  a "corrected" position. They didn't realize at first that my feet came as a "matched" set.  I think they were under the assumption the left foot started off better. I am really pleased, because my foot looks like an almost normal foot.

And the first thing out of my mouth when they woke me up was "ITCHY(rubbing face furiously), but only on da face". I don't think i had even opened up my eyes yet. 50 mg of Benedryl they wheel me into recovery. I dont even remember that part.

First thing I do remember is being in recovery having the following conversation:
Nurse: Wendy... wendy... what are you doing?
Me: Scratching.  I itchy.  Everywhere. Can you make it stop now. Please?
Nurse: [chuckle]

2 mintues, another 50 mg of benedryl and the anasthesiologist later...
Nurse: Wendy... how are you feeling now.
Me: Less itchy. Can go home now?
Nurse: Not yet. Soon.
Me: Mmmmmkay.

So I still have pain, but it is totally different. It is more along the line of hey I just had major work done on my toe and not OMG get it out, get it out. Stitches will come out in two weeks and I will probably be back to the boot (depending on the xrays). I have drugs and counterdrugs and many naps.

The kats like the last part.  They are not sure about the new splint though. It smells funny.

Hooray for the Healing Power of Kitties (TM)!

Yeah! for talented surgeons! And even more for feet that are really coming along!

Soak up the healing power of kitty love.

(Cats, in fact, have an invisible sleep ray they can use. It can only be aimed properly by a cat laying on you directly. Use can be anticipated by the sound made by it's generator: *purrrrrrrrrrrrrr* It's a deadly weapon)

Cello not be the friendliest kitty to outsiders. But she is my kitty and I am her thumb monkey (the boy is a substitute wanna be in her eyes, but will do in a pinch).

This is her 'favoritest' position evar. Though her being long haired, and the weather being hazy, hot and humid, did not make for a cool weekend.

Yeah, I have a kitty who is very much MINE, and another who is JOHN's. And one who's too dumb to care. Though he likes the baby and she likes him.

Still, kitty comfort is a good thing, so long as it's not impinging on ouchiness.

We could swap pics. They wanted to tie ropes onto my feet and use them as balloons for the Macy's Parade.

I had the same "itchy" situation after surgery. I have that response to percocet and a milder version of the itchies to dilauded. Hopefully by Pennsic we'll both be off our scooters and on our feets!
