I should never be left unsupervised with a wireless connection and a 500 year old manual of "athletics"  and scary pants on a Friday night.

I can totally see making a charlie brown patterned doublet.  While the pattern is on the leg, it could go on the top...

And he has an owl on his pants.  I could so put a salamander on the leg with the flames...

And then there are these.  I am almost speechless, but I want to figure out how to piece that together.

I think it is time to walk away now.

First I wondered if these are honest representations of the garments worn, or artistic indications to better express who is represented in the image.

It also causes me to ask whether the coloring happened at the time of the drawing, or was it added at another time?

Those are fantastic images!

It could very well be a combination of both. It is a German manuscript. Though the target audience probably was not the common man. So more of the intricate designs and patterns might be stamped or painted fabric. And would be common among the upper class sorts. Unfortunately this is not the type of thing you are going to find hanging in a museum. And there was probably some artistic license.

From my understanding of this artist (which is pretty slight) he was known for this style of work and vibrancy. Though the graphics person in me says that there was probably some color correction in the digitizing of the book.

It is a really neat manuscript. Very detailed in instruction.

The trick is going to be translating this to fencing armor. I am going to try to get as close to the garment as possible. But I will be stitching this in linen and there are those pesky armoring rules. It should be a challenge.

Well, golly, if there is a history of such detail being stamped or painted on a garment, would that not be in keeping for you to do as well?
Would that be an appropriate way to reduce the number of fine seams in armor?

I'm excited to see what you choose to do. Your work is noticable from a distance, it's very cool when I recognize it.

I'll definitely be journaling this one. I will have to play with what will work best with the linen and hold up to being stuffed in a bag. This project is in its infancy. :D

And thank you!

Why do his pants say "DUCK", when it's clearly an owl? Is he prone to throwing owls?

"Duck!"
"No, I'm pretty sure that's an ow-"[SMACK]
"Dude. Owl to the face, harsh."
