Meat, fruit and linen... oh my
I have deer for the weekend. I have 2 turkeys de-boned and in the freezer (lissa510 you're getting off easy Saturday). I have pawned off 30 lbs of ham to freeze in someone else's freezer (thank you oaken_glen).
I got a price bid for produce today. I was a little shocked at the the total for fruit and cabbage/brussels sprouts from the local farmers market at suburban station. I stopped by the local one here in the neighbor hood, and go there just as the apple guy was packing up to leave. I asked about getting a bushel of apples and a bushel of pears. Since this was their last week of the season, they were willing to make a deal. I got a bushel of apples and a 1/2 bushel of pears for $20 (thats all he had left for pears). 100 less than the other guy. The only catch was I had to walk home with a bushel and a half of produce. Luckily telescope_merc was home and helped me get most it in the house. I will be sending produce home with everyone this weekend that has room for apples in their fridges.
As it is, I had to debone 2 of the turkeys tonight because I couldn't fit anything else in the fridge. And I had to get the pears in. It is amazing how little room turkey takes up when your remove the skeletal structure. :D
I took pictures this time of the deboning process. I am starting a techniques portion to my blog for cooking (I already have one for sewing tricks). I will probably write up a small paper for people who are interested in deboning birds. I'm not planing on posting the pics here, as that is something that simply doesn't appeal to a lot of people. Will let you know when that is up.
Linen arrived today. Unfortunately the King's waffenrok gray, is the wrong color. It looks more beige than asphalt. I am going to have to dye it I think. But the rest of it looks great. Sunday is a sewing day. After cooking most of Friday night and all of Saturday, I am going to need the break.
